Interfaith Space: Interfaith Events

Faiths Act Hub Formation

For the past several months, many of us have had the opportunity to meet Tim Brauhn and Hafsa Arain, two Faiths Act Fellows being hosted by ING here in San Jose. Sponsored by the Tony Blair Faiths Foundation and the Interfaith Youth Core, they have been working especially with young people in our area on interfaith service projects, especially relating to the eradication of malaria world wide. As they prepare to depart soon, they are planning two gatherings for local people to plan ways to continue interfaith cooperation and linkage to Faiths Act programs. We pass along this invitation to you and your communities:

Hello Bay Area interfaithers,

The work of the Faiths Act Fellows in the Bay Area is drawing to a close, but there is still much to do and celebrate. If you're reading this, it means that you're either someone whom we've had the pleasure to meet or the shame of not having bumped into yet (if the latter, we are very sorry). If you're not familiar with Hafsa Arain (my Faiths Act site-partner) and myself, here's the capsule definition: The Faiths Act Fellows are 30 young interfaith leaders working in the US, UK, and Canada to build multifaith hubs of action for the Millennium Development Goals and the eradication of malaria. The program is a partnership between the Interfaith Youth Core and Tony Blair Faith Foundation. Since October, Hafsa and I have been working with many of you and a number of universities in the Bay Area to build a sustainable "hub" of interfaith activity here.

We've attached to this email a small packet of information regarding World Malaria Day 2010 (April 25th). We'd like for as many of you to get involved as we can. Read it through and let us know if you'd like to be a part of the fight to end malaria deaths. Feel free to forward the attachment to your clergy networks (if you have them).

We will also have two Faiths Act Hub Launch Celebrations planned for May. These will be opportunities to thank everyone for their help, celebrate what Faiths Act/Interfaith Youth Core/Tony Blair Faith Foundation has done in the Bay Area since October, and help connect interfaithers here with future Faiths Act initiatives. There will be food and stories and all manner of laughs. Please RSVP to me as soon as you can.

  • Hub Launch San Francisco:
Monday, May 3rd at 6:00 pm at the Interfaith Center at the Presidio in SF. Rev. Paul Chaffee has offered the hospitality of the ICP for the evening.
  • Hub Launch South Bay:
Monday, May 10th or the Friday to either side, May 7th or May 14th in a location to be determined (somewhere in San Jose or Santa Clara) at 6:00 pm. Use this link to pick a good time collectively: http://www.doodle.com/q3rnq25ucneig7e4

It's also not too late to register for the Interfaith Millennium Development Goals Coalition's conference "One Voice of Faith" on April 20-21. The conference features amazing speakers and a Youth Leadership Summit (http://www.imdgc.org).

Thank so much, and we look forward to seeing and hearing from you in the coming weeks.

Tim and Hafsa
