Interfaith Space: Interfaith Events

Special Events

Although the regular issue of this newsletter will be coming your way on the first of May, there are a couple of special opportunities coming up that can't wait for that deadline.

Islamic Art Exhibit: Our friend and colleague Tahir Anwar invites you all to attend the Opening Reception of the Islamic Art Exhibit,"Legacy of the Quran: Beauty of the Words," tomorrow, Friday, April 23rd, 2010 at 7:00pm. This exhibit is something near and dear to Tahir, who was inspired after attending an exhibit last year around the Fremontia flower in Fremont. He asked some Muslim artists to organize something which would bring diverse people from all walks of life together. The reception will be held at the Islamic Cultural Center of Northern California, located at 1433 Madison Ave, in Oakland. Come and join the reception, which will begin at 7PM and will go to 9PM. There is plenty of street parking, but if you can't find street parking, there is a paid parking lot on 14th Street between Jackson St. and Alice St. It is about a block and a half walk from ICCNC building. Please RSVP at info@islamicartexhibit.com.

Serving God and Serving Humanity: A Jewish Ethic of Global Justice. Ruth Messinger, president of American Jewish World Service, a faith-based international human rights organization working to alleviate poverty, hunger and disease in the developing world will be speaking Saturday, April 24, 2010 at 3:30 pm. A leading advocate against genocide and for peace and human rights, Messinger was recently appointed to President Obama's Task Force on Global Poverty and Development. Free event. Sponsored by Jewish Students Association, Stanford Associated Religions, and Faiths Act in Togetherness and Hope (FAITHS). Location: Koret Pavilion, Ziff Center, 565 Mayfield Avenue, Stanford University, Stanford.

Conference on Gulen Movement. Santa Clara University and the Pacifica Institute are sponsoring a conference on the movement founded by Fethulla Gülen. Speakers will address the nature and history of the movement, and its worldwide educational and service efforts. Saturday, May 1, from 8:30 am to 12:00 noon. Location: Williman Room.
