The Teaching by His Holiness the Dalai Lama
and An Interfaith Gathering

Dear Friends:

The Teaching:

The Gyuto Vajrayana Center in San Jose will host a teaching by His Holiness the Dalai Lama on Tuesday, October 12 at the San Jose Convention Center from 2:00-3:30pm.

His Holiness’ teaching is entitled "Eight Verses on Mind Training: Awakening the Heart of Compassion." Eight Verses is an eleventh-century Tibetan text by Geshe Langri Thangpa. This classic text is in the genre of lojong, or mind training.  Lojong focuses on methods for cleansing our hearts and minds by cultivating compassion, developing appropriate regard for self and others, and turning obstacles into opportunities for positive personal and social change. Reading the Eight Verses on Mind Training is part of His Holiness' regular devotional practice, and he regards it as one of his main sources of inspiration.

The Gyuto Center offers complimentary seating to clergy who submit the attached registration form.  Please send this form to the Gyuto Center at your earliest convenience.  The deadline is September 25.

If you would like to forward ticket information to your friends, please send them this link:

An Interfaith Gathering:

You are also invited to a post-teaching interfaith event in the San Jose Convention Center ballroom from 4:00 (or 30 minutes after the teaching ends) until 6:00 pm.

Plans for this gathering include time to reflect on the Dalai Lama's teaching, enjoy simple vegetarian food, and to learn more about interfaith community building in Silicon Valley and throughout the Bay Area.  The Dalai Lama may also choose to join us and discuss his new book, Toward a True Kinship of Faiths: How the World's Religions Can Come Together (New York: Doubleday, 2010), though his participation will not be confirmed until the day of the teaching.

Details and registration information about the interfaith gathering will be sent when it is finalized. Please save the date and time.

If you have questions, please contact interfaith@gyutocenter.org or call and leave a message at (408) 824-1376 ext. 108.

Thank you.

Best Regards,

Silicon Valley Interreligious Council
